November 25

Hello Team KA/1A,

Thanks for coming to Parent-Teacher Interviews this week. I sincerely enjoy getting a chance to meet each of you and discus your child’s progress. As always, please don’t hesitate to send me an email at any time if you have questions or concerns about your child’s learning.

This week in Fundations we reviewed the 15 letters that we know and worked with sentence structure, rhyming and capitalization. Two new letters coming next week!

We read the book Snowballs by Lois Ehlert together. The book is about decorating snowmen with whatever odds and ends can be found around the house. So, we collected odds and ends from the classroom and made our own never-melting snowmen. This was great scissor and direction following practice with some very cute end products.

In Math we continue to explore ways to represent and break numbers apart. We have been playing many different math games to practice and strengthen our learning. Students are becoming more independent and are able to play/work at the math centers without as much involvement from me, which means we are able to have a greater variety of centers happening in the room each day. At home, games with dice are a fun and effective way to practice number sense skills together as a family.

You are invited to the West Kent Holiday Concert on Dec. 14 (snow date Dec 16) at 12:45. We will perform for the school in the morning, and for families in the afternoon. Everyone is working hard in music class to prepare for this performance and we are excited to show you in a couple weeks!

Our class was lucky enough to be drawn as the HomeRoom winner in the annual Book Fair draw. KA/1A won $25 worth of books from the fair and I’m excited to share our newest library additions with the class on Monday.

The West Kent Holiday Shop will take place on Dec 7 & Dec 8 (snow date Dec 9). There is a box set up in the front lobby for donations. The Home & School is looking for volunteers to help run the shop. Watching students pick out gifts for their grownups last year was truly the highlight of my holiday season. If you have the time available, it is a heart-warming way to spend a few hours. Here is the link to sign up:
