May 11-15

Hello KA families,

We returned to Victoria Park on Wednesday and saw more changes in the landscape this week. There were more buds on the trees and they were more vibrant and full. We saw lots of frog eggs in the pond, and we hope to see some tadpoles when we return in two weeks. We won’t be going next week since we’ll be going to Orwell.

We had another session of our Introspection program with Ms. Sandra on Tuesday. This time, we learned about our eyes, ears and mouth and different sensations they may feel.

On Thursday, we got to watch the second annual Wessy’s Got Talent. We were all impressed by the talent showcased by West Kent students and those from KA were discussing which talents they would like to share with the school next year. Auditions usually open up in late March/early April, so keep an eye out next year for the call! We finished our sunflower experiment and students took a sunflower home with them to gift to someone they love.

It’s hard to believe, but we are quickly approaching the end of the year. We have begun year-end assessments in preparation for the final report cards. This does not mean that teaching and learning have stopped, but it is time to begin to take stock of what has been learned so far this year. I will be offering final Parent-Teacher Interviews the final week of May for those who would like to discuss or get more information on their child’s learning. This is not a mandatory meeting, only if desired. Please reach out and let me know if you would like to schedule a third interview.

On Wednesday we will be going to Orwell Corner for the day, rain or shine! This is a full day field trip and we will not have access to any lunch orders (no milk or school food program). We will be touring barns, going on a wagon ride and participating in a variety of activities. Please make sure your child is dressed in layers with footwear suitable for walking around a farm. They will need a water bottle, a packed lunch and snacks for the day. Thank you to everyone for returning their permission forms and bus money so quickly.

On Friday, May 29, current Kindergarten students will not have class. This is the day that next year’s Kindergarten students will come to West Kent for their orientation in preparation for school entry in September. Your child will stay home for the day, and will return the following Monday.

Our grade 6 students will be hosting a freezie sale on Tuesday, May 12th. The cost is $1.00 each and students can buy up to two freezies each ($2.00).

To every mother that is part of our KA class community including (but not limited to) biological moms, step moms, foster moms, adoptive moms, grand mothers and special aunties, Happy Mother’s Day! Thank you for all you do to support and guide your child(ren). I hope you get spoiled this weekend!
